It follows US food giant Kraft Heinz’s decision to pump £140million into upgrading equipment at the site over the next four years.

The investment — said to be one of the biggest in UK manufacturing since Brexit — will create about 50 full-time jobs.

Kitt Green site director Luis Spinardi said: “We’re excited to be expanding our product mix by bringing sauces back to the UK.”

Only sachets of the ketchup, a 19th-century US invention, have been made in Britain since mass production was moved from Kitt Green in 1999.
