Legal fight: Gay dating app Grindr is accused of sharing sensitive details of hundreds of users without their consent

Gay dating app Grindr is being sued for allegedly sharing users’ private information with advertisers, including their HIV status.

London-based law firm Austen Hays has accused the US company of breaching data protections after it allegedly shared sensitive details of hundreds of users without their consent.

This included HIV status, sexual orientation and ethnicity.

Austen Hays added that around 670 individuals have signed up to their lawsuit, with thousands more in the UK potentially affected.

If successful, claimants could receive thousands of pounds in damages, Austen Hays said.

The breaches are said to have taken place between 2018 and 2020.

A Grindr spokesman said the company planned to ‘respond vigorously to this claim’.
