It’s one of the staple items from the bakery chain and has been making a gradual increase in price – and this is now the fourth rise since 2022.

In October last year, it rose from £1.10 to £1.15 after starting 2022 at just £1.

And in some city-centre locations like London, its sausage roll now costs as much as £1.45.

At the time fans were furious so we’ve got no doubt they’ll be feeling the same frustration this time round.

The fourth price rise comes after Greggs reported sales have grown by 23% in the last 12 months.

Sales hit £1.51billion in 2022, up from £1.23billion the year before.

Here’s is a breakdown of how sausage roll prices have rise in the last six years:

  • 2016 – 85p
  • 2017 – 90p
  • 2021 – £1
  • January 2022 – £1.05
  • May 2022 – £1.10
  • October 2022 – £1.15
  • January 2023 – £1.20

The sausage roll price rice was influenced by inflation, according to the bakery chain, with the group seeing costs up by about 9% on average over 2022, compared with the previous year.

It forced the group to increase the prices of some of its key food items several times over the course of the year, with the sausage roll, lunchtime deal and hot evening deals going up each time by 5p or 10p.

However, Greggs has said that even though consumers are facing cost-of-living pressures, its meals remain good value and therefore attractive to the cash-conscious consumer.

For example, its breakfast meal deal remains at £2.60 and its lunch deal at £3.60.

On top of the sausage rolls news, Greggs has revealed that it’ll be extending the opening hours of more than 500 of its stores.

Hundreds of shops will now be open until 8pm, meaning sales during the early evening are growing fast.

The firm didn’t confirm which branches would have their opening hours extended, but we’ve asked for more information.

Most shops were open until 5.30pm or 6.30pm but hundreds are now open until 8pm, 8.30pm, 9pm, 10pm or even 11pm, depending on location.

For example, multiple stores in London are open after 10pm. The Westminster Underground shop and Victoria Coach Station are open until 10pm.

Greggs revealed a huge January menu shake-up which included the addition of three new vegan items yesterday.

There are 11 items on the revamped menu including the classic vegan sausage roll and glazed ring doughnut.

But it’s the first time three items have been launched nationwide after being sold regionally.
