GREGGS has launched two brand new menu items – but they’re not quite what fans have been hankering after.

The bakery giant has today introduced two salads to its menu.

Greggs lovers after a light lunch will be able to try the new sweet potato bhaji and rice salad, as well as the smoky cajun rice with BBQ chicken and sweetcorn fritters salad.

They’ve been rolled out nationwide, but are subject to availability at any of Greggs’ 2,100 restaurants.

Customers will have to fork out £2.85 for each of the fresh finds – more than double the price of the high street giant’s most popular menu addition – the famous sausage roll.

Both of the options are under 300 calories though, and sit within Greggs’ “Balanced Choice” range.

It’s great news for health-conscious fast-foodies, but fans had actually been hoping the chain would bring back something a bit different.

They’ve been obsessed with the return of the steak and cheese roll, which was sadly axed from the menu previously.

On Twitter, Greggs devotees had some passionate things to say about the forgotten menu item.

“Please, for the love of God, Greggs, can you bring back the steak and cheese roll,” said one user.

“It was the single greatest pastry I ever had the pleasure of consuming, and without it, my life has been left empty without the delightful comfort of that cheesy, steaky bliss.”

Another, more simply, said: “Please bring back the steak and cheese roll – I miss them so much.”

While a third said: “Greggs can you stop messing me around now, and just bring back the steak and cheese roll.”

More fans were left musing the return of the menu item.

Another user told the social media platform: “When I become a bored trillionaire, I’m going to buy Greggs and bring back the steak and cheese roll.”

And as more users questioned the bakery giant of the snack’s whereabouts, one said: “Are you ever going to bring back the steak and cheese rolls? I can’t believe they were discontinued.”

Meanwhile, another bluntly said: “BRING BACK THE STEAK AND CHEESE ROLL.”

Greggs hasn’t confirmed any kind of return for the clear fan favourite, but responding to Twitter users’ desperate pleas, it did have this to say:

“Sorry you’re missing our steak and cheese rolls. But keep your eyes peeled, we always have new and tasty products launching.”

The Sun has approached Greggs for comment and will update this story should the baker have any more teases of returned faves.

It’s not the only time ditched menu items have caused uproar though.

Bread pudding fans pleaded with Greggs to bring back the tasty snack to its menu after it was axed during the pandemic.

And Greggs customers were FURIOUS when it temporarily axed another menu favourite to sell the vegan festive bake before Christmas.

Fans were also up in arms when they didn’t spot hot cross buns on the menu this Easter either.
