GREGGS has armed staff with body cameras after a surge in thieving sausage roll scoffers and attacks.
The high-street bakery chain rolled out clip-on recorders in a bid to halt crooks pinching stock from their shelves.
The cameras can record for 90minutes and are activated by staff if they have to face confrontation.
It is understood the tech is being trialled in some of the takeaway brand’s busiest stores.
A sign in Greggs’ London Bridge station branch said they were “Keeping Everyone Safe”.
It read: “To ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues, we’re trialling body-worn cameras in this shop.

“Audio and video will be recorded.”
A source told The Sun: “The cameras were introduced as staff were getting worried they could be attacked.
“Everyone’s noticed there’s more shoplifting.
“If it was filmed on a bodycam there’s more of a chance they would be put off trying.”

But another worker added: “They don’t really do much because they take five seconds to power up and start recording.
“By the time you’ve got it on, the thieves are gone.”
The bakery is the latest in a long line of high street chains to offer the recorders to staff.
Last year Tesco, Co-op and Primark all rolled out the cameras after a spike in attacks on their workers.
And English Heritage — who manage Stonehenge in Wiltshire and Hadrian’s Wall in Cumbria — also started trialling body-worn cameras at their sites this month.
A poll earlier this year found one in six staff workers were physically attacked by abusive customers.
Last year we revealed one Greggs branch had to lock up its drinks fridge because of rampant thieves.
