Customers can get a pint for the same pint it cost in 1952, when the Queen first took the throne.

Patrons can get a pint of Greene King IPA at one of the group’s 408 Local Pubs or Flaming Grill sites.

But to get the deal, you’ll have to know the secret code.

Punters should say “1952” when they order at the bar to take advantage of the deal.

The code word is the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s royal coronation.

This week, workers will get an extra day off to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, which marks 70 years since she took the throne.

Andrew Gallagher of Greene King Local Pubs said: “We wanted to take our customers back to where it all began in 1952 – a time when Vera Lynn ruled the charts and pints were only 6p.

“Some of our regulars may even remember watching the coronation back in 1952, although they may have been too young to enjoy a pint then.”

The deal is only available today, Monday 30 May, so you’ll need to move quickly.

You can use Greene King’s pub finder tool to find the nearest participating site.

You need to be aged 18 or over to claim the deal, and it’s limited to one pint per person.

The usual price of a pint of IPA varies depending on where you order, but 6p is considerably cheaper than the average cost of a tipple.

Punters have already been warned that the price of a pint could reach £7 this year.

There have also been recent concerns over beer shortages this summer, amid worker strikes and a glass shortage.

Drinkers will remember that a shortage of carbon dioxide caused beer pumps to run dry a number of times in recent years.

Meanwhile, for those getting ready to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee this coming weekend, we’ve rounded up the best Fortnum and Mason’s hamper dupes.
