A Republican senator has accused the leader of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis of inappropriately involving the institution in political activity.
Sen. Pat Toomey (R., Pa.) has long challenged some regional Fed banks over activities he believes stand apart from their legally mandated mission of controlling inflation and promoting job growth. On Tuesday, he wrote to Minneapolis Fed chief Neel Kashkari over the central banker’s backing for a push to improve education in Minnesota.
