GOOGLE has rolled out an emergency patch for Chrome after it was alerted to a high-level bug already exploited by hackers.

The tech giant has rushed to fix a total of 11 serious security issues, seven of which have been deemed a high risk.

Thankfully, the vast majority aren’t believed to have been actively abused by cyber crooks yet.

But the worst of the lot already “exists in the wild”, meaning it’s important all three billion Chrome users update their browsers as soon as possible.

Google is keeping quiet about the full details of the vulnerabilities until enough people have update.

This is to prevent inadvertently giving hackers all the information they need to pull off attacks.

Most of the bugs are found by external experts who don’t work directly for Google, who are paid bug bounties for uncovering issues before cyber criminals find them.

“We would also like to thank all security researchers that worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel,” the firm said.

“Google is aware of reports that an exploit for CVE-2022-0609 exists in the wild.”

Updates to Chrome should roll out automatically, but it’s best to make sure yourself.

You can do this by opening the three dot menu in the top right.

Select Help, which is right at the bottom of the menu.

From there, go to About Google Chrome.

On this page, it’ll check for updates straight away and let you know whether you’ve got the latest version installed or not.
