According to TheSpAndroid, the Google App may have its search bar moved to the bottom of the screen.

This was a change that also happened to Apple’s Safari app.

It proved to be controversial at the time with lots of users complaining that they didn’t improve.

A quick search on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, revealed the frustrations of users who disliked the search bar move in 2022.

One person wrote on X: “Updating my phone was a mistake. why the hell is the safari search bar at the bottom.”

Another said: “New iPhone update moves the safari search bar to the bottom.

“Why? Why do updates love to fix things that aren’t broken??”

Another added: “Dear Apple, put that safari search bar back at the top. Stupid update.”

The ability to move the Safari search bar has been available since iOS 15 and users can move it back to the top of the screen if they don’t like it.

It’s intended to make life easier for users as they’re already used to typing at the bottom of the screen while texting.

TheSpAndroid spotted that Android is also testing out this change on a new version of the Google app referred to as 14.48.26.29.arm64.

It provided screenshots that show the search bar at the bottom of the phone screen just above the lower navigation tabs.

The change is said to make browsing easier for people with a long phone screen.

This could ease the strain on fingers and thumbs trying to stretch to the top of the screen on large phones like the 6.8-inch display on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

It’s unclear when or if the change will roll out permanently to all Android devices.
