How to watch Google Pixel event – start time and more

The big Made by Google event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 6 – that’s today!

It kicks off at 10am New York time (where the event is being held).

In London, you’ll be tuning in at 3pm, while Californians can watch from 7am.

The event will be available to watch for free on Google-owned YouTube.

Just head to the official Made by Google channel here.

We’re expecting a host of new gadgets to be unveiled – including at least two new phones and a smartwatch.

And thanks to endless leaks, we already have a very good idea of what’s in store.

Google Pixel 7

Google Pixel 7 will be the entry-level device for today’s event.

It’ll ship with Google’s latest Android 13 software.

And it’ll use an upgraded version of Google’s custom Tensor chip – a rival to Apple’s own A-series processors.

There’s no word on exactly what kind of new features or performance gains we’ll see, but expect at least some kind of improvement.

The design is expected to shift slightly, with an aluminium camera bar on the back featuring very prominent cameras.

We’re likely to see a small pill-shaped notch on the front, housing the selfie camera.

Google Pixel 7 Pro

The Google Pixel 7 Pro is the next step up from the Pixel 7.

It’ll likely boast all the best features, and is a direct rival to Apple’s new iPhone 14 Pro.

One of the big perks of the Pro model looks set to bit a triple-camera system on the back. That’s in keeping with last year’s Google Pixel 6 Pro.

This will likely include wide, ultra wide and telephoto lenses – par for the course on high-end devices these days.

Instead of a pill-shaped notch on the Pixel 7, the Pro model is set to feature two small cut-outs – one wider than the other.

And it will also run on Android 13, just like its cheaper sibling.

Google Pixel Watch

Perhaps the most exciting of all announcements is the Pixel Watch.

It’s been rumoured for years, but is finally expected to debut at Made by Google.

Yes, it’s a smartwatch – a clear rival to the very dominant Apple Watch.

It’ll offer up health tracking on a slick circular face, built on a premium stainless steel body.

That’s a stark contrast to the more squared-off Apple Watch Series 8 (and certainly the new Apple Watch Ultra).

But Google appears to have adopted a crown-dial on the side – similar to many classic watches, and the Apple Watch too.

It’s very likely to feature heart-rate monitoring, a log of calories burned and sleep tracking.

There may also be a cellular version of the device that lets you use the device when you don’t have your mobile on you.

Battery life remains a mystery, but it would be surprising if Google’s Pixel Watch didn’t last at least a day on a single charge.

Sadly we don’t have pricing yet, but the Pixel Watch will be up against a vast range of Apple Watch models.

We’d expect an entry-level model to cost somewhere between £199/$199 and £499/$499, depending on the specs.
