In response to requests of images of America’s founding fathers — all white males — Google’s Gemini AI feature included women and people from ethnic minorities.

It also returned images of Asian and black Nazi soldiers, as well as historically inaccurate Vikings.

It led to tech tycoon Elon Musk — owner of rival xAI — branding the Gemini tool “woke and racist”.

Jack Krawczyk, of Gemini Experiences, said: “Gemini’s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people — that’s generally a good thing as people around the world use it.

“But it’s missing the mark here.

“We’re working to improve these kinds of depictions immediately.”

Gemini — previously known as Bard — was accused of left-wing bias on its launch last March.

Last night, a Google spokeswoman said: “We’re going to pause the image generation of people and re-release an improved version soon.”
