According to Google, accounts will be deleted gradually, starting with those that were made but never used.

Prior to account deletion, the organization promised to send many alerts to the account and its recovery email.

Gmail will delete inactive accounts as early as Friday

As of this Friday, Google will start erasing inactive Gmail accounts in accordance with a new security protocol.

The digital giant declared in May that Google accounts that haven’t been used in the last two years will have their emails, pictures, and other data deleted as well.

Since the change is scheduled to take effect in December, you may only have a few hours left to back up any crucial information that you may have forgotten.

Other times Gmail has crashed

Prior to reports on February 6 and 7 of 2022, there were also comments on the Downdetector website from February 1.

Users also commented that back in January 2022 they were having issues.

There have also been several incidents at the beginning of this year that were quickly resolved.

Gmail’s Twitter has not yet commented on the latest outage.

How to check if Gmail isn’t working

There are websites that report when certain apps and websites are having issues.

Downdetector is one website that users can check to see if there are indeed outages for whatever issues they are experiencing.

Another way Gmail users can try to troubleshoot their accounts is to log out and attempt to log in once more.

Checking Google and Gmail’s Twitter accounts can be useful as well to see if they are reporting outages themselves.
