Buying frozen food tends to be cheaper than fresh, and freezing food and leftovers means we waste less.
Follow these tips to get the most out of your freezer.
THAT’S A THAW-GHT: Keep your freezer between 70 and 85 per cent full, say specialists ADK Kooling. Too full and it will struggle to freeze everything, too empty and it will have to work harder to keep the temp down. Defrost it every month to remove excess ice, which makes it less efficient. A frosted-up freezer can be £100 more expensive per year to run.

MONEY BAGS: Protect your freezer food from drying out with freezable plastic bags — which take up less space than boxes. Wilko does a 30-pack of large ones for £2 (less than 7p each), with panels for writing on the dates. Freezer boxes also work but they are more expensive — a 17-pack can set you back £9.99 on Amazon.

STICKER TRICKS: Food can be frozen any day before the use-by date, so nab some “yellow sticker” deals at the supermarket and chuck them in the freezer. Waitress Mel Denton, 19, from Stockport, told how she reduced her weekly food spend from £100 to £70 by finding reduced meat and veg to cook and freeze.

LEFT IS RIGHT: Even if you have cooked your meat from frozen, you can still freeze leftovers to make a new meal. But make sure you only reheat it once.
FROZEN’S CHOSEN: Shop for frozen versions of food such as fruit, veg and meat rather than pricier fresh ones. In one Sun experiment, a frozen basket of goods was £10 cheaper than the same one with fresh produce.
