Studio.co.uk has the 506 Compact Sewing Machine for just £39.99.

Very.co.uk has a Brother machine for £89. As this is a big-ticket item, use quidco.com or topcashback.co.uk so you earn back a bit as you spend.

Also check out your local British Heart Foundation furniture shop — see bhf.org.uk to find yours — as they test every electrical item to ensure it works before selling.

GATHER YOUR THREADS: Hobbycraft has 3-for-2 offers across all Gutermann’s threads.

The Works is selling 12-packs of multi-coloured spools for £1 and embroidery thread bundles from £3.

KEEP IT TIDY: Get a clear stacking box at Hobbycraft for £6, down from £12. The Works has two-for-£10 on storage boxes which could be ideal for sewing kit.

MAKE MONEY: The right sewing project could become a lucrative side-hustle.

More people than ever have been searching for bunting, with weddings returning, and sewing it is a great project.

Pinterest says that searches for embroidery have tripled in the past year. You can test selling your items on online auction sites.
