Family budgets are often pushed to breaking point as parents struggle to keep kids fed and entertained over the school holidays.

And with the rising cost of living people will really be feeling the pinch.

Luckily for parents, shops and supermarkets do offer free food or £1 meal deals at their cafes to help keep costs down.

We’ve has put together a list of all the places your children can eat free or cheap this half term.

Asda

Kids aged 16 or under can eat a meal at Asda’s cafes for £1 until the end of March.

The scheme was originally set up in June 2022 but has been extended twice.

Children can get a hot or cold meal seven days a week, and there’s no minimum adult spend.

Plus, the supermarket chain has its £1 ‘soup and roll’ offer which is available to over 60’s in all cafes until the end of March.

The supermarket is also offering a free bowl of porridge to youngsters between 8am and 12pm every day during half term between February 9 and 22.

The Blue Light Cards is a discount card available to emergency services workers, including those in the NHS and police.

You can find your nearest Asda café using the supermarket’s online store checker.

M&S

The supermarket is bringing back the popular kids eat free offer across 340 of its cafes in England and Scotland between February 13-24.

Families can get a free kids’ munch meal which usually costs £4 for free when you spend £5 or more in a single transaction on non-kids food or drink.

The kids’ munch meal includes Main + Snack + Drink, with delicious choices from pancakes with blueberries & honey to classics such as jacket potato with beans & sausages and cheesy tomato pasta.

To find your nearest store with an M&S cafe in it, use the retailer’s shop locator tool online.

Morrisons

Kids can eat for free at Morrisons’ cafes and the offer is ongoing.

A kids meal includes a piece of fruit and Tropicana Kids Orange or Apple drink or bottle of water.

But the child must be under 16 and the parent must buy an adult meal worth £4.49 or more to get the freebie.

The offer doesn’t include café specials.

You can find out where your nearest Morrisons’ café is by using the supermarket’s store locator tool.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s has also confirmed that it’ll be offering kids free hot meals or a lunch bag over half-term.

Parents will just need to purchase any of the adult main meals for £5.20.

The offer is available in all Sainsbury’s cafes between February 13 and February 24.

During term time, Sainsbury’s is also offering kid’s meals for £1 for every adult main purchased.

We’ve asked other supermarkets what they’re doing for half-term and will update this piece once we hear back.

The Range is also giving shoppers the chance to get a free breakfast.

Two children under 16 per family can get a free warm breakfast with every adult breakfast purchased.

Tesco

Tesco has brought back its Kids Eat Free scheme in its 312 cafés across the UK between February 13 and 24.

The supermarket chain offers one free kids hot meal meal, kids breakfast or kids pick ‘n’ mix deal with each item bought by an adult from as little as 60p.

There is a slight catch though, the adult must show their Clubcard at the till to get the kids meal free.
