EASTER is just around the corner – and it will impact certain shops and retailers’ opening hours.

It’s definitely worth checking what’s open and what’s not in advance – you don’t want to head out to your local store to find it’s closed.

Easter this year falls on Sunday, April 9, while Good Friday is April 7 and Easter Monday April 10.

In most cases, shops stay open for Good Friday and Easter Monday which are bank holidays.

But you should always check their websites to be sure.

Government rules mean stores in England and Wales over 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday.

Shops smaller than this can open, but may change their hours to reflect the holiday and to give their staff some time off.

You can use store locator tools on retailer’s websites to check when they’ll be open.

Keep in mind as well, none of the opening hours during Easter weekend are guaranteed because it will vary depending on the shop.

Here we’ve rounded up what supermarket’s are making changes to opening times over Easter below.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s confirmed 600 of its big stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Branches in Scotland will open in line with Sunday trading hours – do check your local store times if that’s where you’re based.

However, the supermarket’s 800 UK-wide convenience stores will remain open as usual from 7am to 10pm.

Its opening times will range between 6am and 11pm on Good Friday, 6am to 11pm on Easter Saturday, and 7am to 10pm on Easter Monday.

Aldi

Aldi is closing 890 stores in England and Wales on April 9.

As for the surrounding days, branches will be open between 8am and 10pm on Good Friday

The day before Easter shops are open from 8am to 10pm and then from 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday.

Morrisons

Morrisons is pulling the shutters down on every branch in England and Wales on Easter Sunday, but Scottish stores will stay open as usual.

Over the rest of the weekend, every Morrisons branch will be open between 7am and 10pm on Good Friday and 7am to 8pm Easter Monday.

Meanwhile, stores will be operating their normal opening hours on April 8, the Saturday before Easter Sunday.

Asda

Almost all Asda stores will be shut on April 9.

This only excludes Scottish stores, which will remain open.

Opening times will vary across the country, but for the most part both Good Friday and Easter Saturday will have opening hours between 7am and 10pm.

Stores should be open between 7am and 8pm on Easter Monday.

Iceland

Iceland stores will be closed for the most part on April 9.

Exceptions include Swift, Scottish Core, the Food Warehouse stores – but it’s best to check your local branches if you were planning to go.

All stores should be open as usual during the surrounding days, but do still check online in case your local one is different.

Co op

Co op has said all big stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday, subject to the government rules.

However, stores will be open as usual over the weekend.

Do remember to double check the website first, and don’t forget added delivery costs if you decide to order home too.

Tesco and Lidl have not yet confirmed a change to opening times for the long Easter weekend.

Tesco

Tesco said all its larger stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Meanwhile, branches in Scotland will open as per normal Sunday trading hours and the majority of all Express stores will be open.

On Easter Monday, many large stores will operate reduced hours while Express shops will be open as usual.

Meanwhile, on Good Friday, stores that normally stay open until late will close at 10pm.

To make sure you’re covered, you should use Tesco’s branch locator which will tell you opening hours for your nearest outlet.

You can also use the locator to check what time Tesco petrol stations will be open too.

Lidl

The German retailer will pull down shutters on its stores on Easter Sunday, opening again on Easter Monday between 8am and 8pm.

Meanwhile, branches across England and Wales will be open as normal until 10pm on Good Friday and Saturday.

Households in Scotland should double-check their local branch’s opening hours over the bank holiday as they will vary from store to store.
