BOXING day is here and the sales have kicked in but several major retailers have kept their shops closed today.

Stores will be closed on Boxing Day in order to give staff some much-needed time off.

And as Christmas Day fell on a Sunday, it means that there’s an extra bank holiday on Tuesday, December 27.

But many retailers will start re-opening their stores from this date.

Opening hours often vary depending on the retailer, so check your local store’s opening hours before you make the trip.

Aldi

Aldi stores are closed on Boxing Day as they usually are during the Christmas period.

The budget supermarket’s stores will re-open from 8am on Monday, December 27.

Aldi has more than 1,000 supermarkets and opening times can vary across the UK.

And the discount supermarket’s opening hours vary depending on where you live.

B&Q

Along with many other big stores, B&Q has chosen to close its 308 shops in the UK on Boxing Day.

The retailer will then reopen on December 27.

Normal opening times will continue from then until New Year‘s Eve, when they will have an earlier closing time of 4pm.

Stores will reopen on New Year’s Day which is on a Sunday in 2023.

Home Bargains

Home Bargains will close all of its 500 stores on Boxing Day.

Stores will re-open on Tuesday, December 27, but as this is a bank holiday expect to have less time in which to get your shop done.

It’s always wise to use the store locator and check when your local retailer will be open during the festive period.

Homebase

Homebase stores will be closed on Boxing Day over the Yuletide season.

This is to give staff time to celebrate the festive period at home with their families and friends.

Stores will re-open on Tuesday, December 27 at 9am and staying open until 6pm.

The best way to find out if your nearest branch is open is to head online and use its store checker tool on the Homebase website.

Iceland

Iceland is closed on Boxing Day, in a change to previous years.

This change is to give staff a rest after a busy few years.

Stores will re-open on December 27 between the hours 8am to 8pm until New Year‘s Eve.

Always check the store’s locator on their website to make sure your local outlet is open before heading out.

John Lewis and Waitrose

The John Lewis Partnership has said that all stores will be closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

This includes all Waitrose stores as well.

However, a few smaller Waitrose stores at petrol stations may still be open.

Despite being closed on December 26, John Lewis is holding a “Boxing Day” sale – with products available for purchase online.

Lidl

All Lidl stores will be closed on Boxing Day.

From December 27 to 30, Lidl supermarkets will be open from 8am to 10pm.

M&S

All M&S stores will be closed on Boxing Day.

M&S stores will re-open on December 27 and 28 from 9am until 8pm.

And then on December 29 and 30 from 8am until 10pm and 8am to 8pm on December 31.

Of course, store hours will vary across the country so do check with your local branch’s opening times online.

Next

With the annual end of season sale starting in stores on December 27, Next is likely to be closed on Boxing Day too.

But, yes it’s good news for shoppers because the sale starts on Tuesday, despite it being a bank holiday.

And the Doors will open at 6am.

The trading times for each shop are available on its website so make sure you check your local store for details. 

Screwfix

Stores are not open on Boxing Day, but will reopen to customers on Tuesday, December 27 at 7am.

Due to the day being a bank holiday, Screwfix will operate reduced opening hours, closing at 6pm.

Wickes

Stores will be closed on Boxing Day, before reopening on Tuesday, December 27, at 7am despite this being a bank holiday.

Opening hours will go back to normal on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
