A NUMBER of shops and banks are pulling down their shutters for the final time from today – we reveal the full list.

The high street has been hit hard in recent years as businesses emerged from the coronavirus pandemic.

High inflation has upped the cost of energy and food too, meaning households are being forced to shop less and cut back on trips out.

That’s bad news for retailers, but also pubs and restaurants.

Dozens of shops, banks and pubs have pulled down their shutters this year, with more earmarked for closure.

This is the full list of stores and banks closing this week.

Farmfoods

The Farmfoods store in West Bromwich closed its doors yesterday, May 14.

The retailer launched a giant closing down sale with 50% off everything as shoppers looked to pick up a bargain.

The supermarket chain, well-known for its frozen food, has around 300 shops across Great Britain.

B&M

B&M is closing and relocating its Widnes store this week.

The branch will close on May 17 and the new shop will open its doors on May 24.

An earlier statement on the B&M website read: “Your B&M Widnes store is moving from its current location at Bowers Retail Park to its new home at Widnes Trade Park (former The Range).

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we bring you a bigger and better B&M store.”

New Look

New Look is closing its branch in the Newlands Shopping Centre in Witham on May 18.

It comes after the retailer closed seven stores this year.

A spokesperson for New Look said: “Our store in Witham will be closing on May 18.

“We are supporting colleagues and we are looking to accommodate the team into local stores where possible.

“We have enjoyed being part of the local community and would like to thank all our customers for shopping with us.”

Wetherspoons

The Last Post Wetherspoons pub in Loughton, Essex, closed yesterday (May 14).

The chain has already closed 21 of its boozers since they went up for sale.

Spoon boss Tim Martin said far more people now drink in their homes rather than in pubs.

Lloyds

Lloyds is closing two of its branches today (May 15).

Its branch in Lampeter, Wales, is pulling down its shutters for the final time.

Meanwhile, its branch in Wickersley, England, is closing for good too.

Halifax

Halifax is closing four of its branches this week.

Its Chingford branch is pulling down its shutters today, while its Redruth branch is closing on May 16.

Two branches, in Sheerness and Bletchley, are closing on May 18.

HSBC

HSBC is closing five branches on May 16.

This includes its branches in Brighouse, Stroud, Whitby, Stamford and Halesowen.

TSB

TSB is pulling down the shutters on its branch in Aberfeldy, Scotland, on May 16.

Meanwhile, its branch in Pollock, Scotland, is closing on May 17.

NatWest

NatWest is closing three branches this week.

Its branch in Broadwater is closing on May 16, while its branch in Colwyn Bay, Wales, is pulling down its shutters on May 17.

Meanwhile, a third branch in Ilminster is closing on May 18.
