FANS of Primark will be keen to know which stores now have self-service checkouts – although not everyone is happy.

The discounter recently rolled out the special tills to a further five shops across the country after introducing them last year.

They were first rolled out at sites in SheffieldNorthamptonWest Bromwich and Kingston as part of a trial in autumn 2022.

The move was in a bid to reduce huge queuing times which are all too familiar to Primark shoppers.

Since last year the chain has been introducing the self-scan tills to further shops, and you can find them at nine in total so far.

The latest five include Coventry, Slough, Edinburgh, Basingstoke and Milton Keynes Shopping Park.

These new tills are certainly a divisive topic and not everyone is happy, with several expressing their annoyance on social media.

It comes as data revealed that self-service checkouts are pretty unpopular amongst shoppers.

One Facebook user posted on the platform: “They always go wrong and then you have to wait ages for a staff member to come (they are always busy, short staffed etc) and the more self service tills the less staff meaning less jobs.”

Another wrote: “Should pay the customer for doing the job for them !!!!”

A third commented: “Hate self service tills! Another shop cutting down its workforce.”

And a fourth said: “I will NEVER use self service checkouts and will not be shopping there ever.”

Some shoppers put themselves in a more neutral position.

One woman said: “There’s pros and cons. Personally I use them if the tills are busy.”

While others are keen to try out the new checkouts and say they prefer the system when asked if they should stick around.

One wrote: “Yes as every time I go in Primark there are only ever like four staff on the tills with a queue of like 20 people waiting I’ve queued in there for 40 minutes to pay before it’s not on.”

Another said: “I’ll be honest needed some socks for my little girl was dreading the trip.

“Was very easy and quick using the self service! Well done Primark.”

A third commented: “This is good news, especially if you have anxiety, you can get in and out quicker.”

While a fourth posted: “Well at least you won’t get over charged by scanning something twice.”

Below is the full list of nine Primark stores that currently have self-service checkouts:

Primark said the checkouts are still in the trial stage and future stores are being chosen on a “case by case basis”.

The new self-checkouts are placed in their own designated area by the usual tills.

They’re protected by a security door which only opens once a receipt has been scanned, in a bid to deter shoplifting.

The Sun has given exclusive access to the self-service checkouts in Primark’s store in Sheffield city centre in November last year.

It comes after the retailer extended its click and collect service to an additional 32 stores in and around London and Greater London.

Shoppers who use click and collect can pick up their orders from a dedicated desk in any of the participating stores.

There’s no fee to use the click and collect service but customers need to spend a minimum of £10 on their orders.

The new service is good news looking to avoid extra money when shopping as they can plan what they’re going to buy beforehand.
