The last remnants of the coronavirus pandemic are still affecting shops along the high street, forcing them to close.

Plus soaring inflation – which rose to 10.4% in February – and fewer shoppers browsing in person is taking a direct hit on sales.

Paperchase, M&Co and M&S are among retailers affected by the closures, so let’s take a look at branches in more detail.

Paperchase

It may not come as a shock to hear Paperchase will be closing stores in April, given its collapse into administration in January.

However, its 106 stores across the UK have been gradually shutting since depending on how much stock is left in each.

As it hosts its final 70% off sale, the chain has confirmed the last closure date for all its stores will be April 3.

You can see a full list of stores shutting now or still to close in our guide.

But it’s not all doom and gloom – Tesco bought the brand and intellectual property, so you’ll still be able to find stock in supermarkets.

M&Co

M&Co is another retailer that went under last year, and its 170 stores are starting to disappear off the high street.

M&Co’s brand and intellectual property was sold to Yours Clothing but the stores weren’t and are set to close.

The following branches will be shutting forever on Saturday, April 1:

  • Lewes
  • Gosport
  • Belper
  • Beccles
  • Newquay
  • Lerwick

M&Co has been running a huge 30-60% off closing down sale online and in stores in recent weeks to help shed remaining stock.

Shoppers need to act fast to take advantage of the discounts because once the items are sold they’re gone forever.

Clintons

Clintons the card company will be shutting two branches next month.

It follows three shops which permanently closed last year.

The store in Gloucester will shut forever on April 1 while the other in Fife will be disappearing on April 8.

In the meantime, you can find your nearest store using the locator tool on its website.

M&S

M&S is expecting a few closures next month, starting on April 15.

That is when the M&S in Linthorpe Road, Middlesborough, which first opened more than 100 years ago, will be closing.

It comes as The Sun previously revealed that the store, along with several others, had been marked for closure this year.

Here are the other stores set to close this month and beyond:

  • Carlton Street, Castleford – end of April
  • Meadowbank retail park, Edinburgh – spring
  • Newport Road, Cardiff – spring
  • Eagles Meadow, Wrexham – autumn
  • Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough – April 15
  • Deansgate, Bolton – date to be confirmed

But don’t worry – M&S is looking to open 104 more Foodhalls over the same period.

Many of the shops are expected to reopen in the same area or location as those earmarked for closure.

In terms of other closures H&M has also announced a couple – there will be at least two closures in Hartlepool and Isle of Wight lined up, but no dates are confirmed yet.

Wetherspoon also has 32 pubs up for sale – 13 of which are currently under offer, but they’re not confirmed as closing.

This is because a buyer has presented an offer that is being considered by the seller.

But it means the sale isn’t guaranteed, and it could still remain open if it doesn’t complete.
