PUMP prices are starting to rise again, adding to the ongoing squeeze on household budgets.

Diesel prices have started to climb following a two month fall, according to the AA.

And while petrol prices are still dropping, the AA says it is happening at a much slower rate than earlier this summer.

The pressure is on for motorists to find the cheapest fuel – but there are ways to find the best prices.

You can always shop around to find the best price nearby and it’s always worth a look at comparing prices.

But even so, the cost of unleaded petrol stood at 183.19p a litre earlier this week.

And the high prices are adding to the pressure households are already facing from rising energy bills and the increased cost of living.

But motorists will find that many of the cheapest prices can be spotted on the supermarket forecourts.

Brands such as Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons look to tempt drivers to fill up as they shop.

They’ve even run promotions in the past to get shoppers to pick up the pumps – Morrisons offered customers 7p off every litre of fuel if they spent £40 in store, earlier this year.

Where to find UK’s cheapest petrol and diesel?

The easiest way to find the cheapest forecourt in your area for petrol, diesel, super unleaded or premium diesel is by comparing prices using an online comparison site.

Website PetrolPrices.com will list the cheapest filling stations in your area.

You need to register with the site, enter your postcode and tell it how far you’re willing to travel for fuel (up to 20 miles) and what fuel type you’re after.

It says it displays the most up-to-date figures across around 8,500 forecourts in the UK, although it is always worth checking locally as prices do change.

Of course, you don’t want to travel too far to save a few pennies per litre or you’ll end up offsetting your savings using extra fuel to drive there.

Also, keep an eye out for fuel discount promotions, particularly from supermarkets.

Fleet News and Allstar also lets you to check petrol prices across the counties so you can see how your region compares to the UK average.

Comparison website Confused.com also has a petrol prices checker that lets registered users find petrol prices within a five, ten or 25mile radius.

How to check fuel prices near me?

The Sun used Confused.com’s petrol price comparison to look at petrol prices in six of the most populated postcode areas of the UK.

They include: Croydon, Leicester, Waltham Forest, Brighton, Brent, and Coventry.

Supermarket forecourts in the areas regularly rank as the cheapest places for petrol too.

In some cases there can be differences of around 4p per litre between petrol stations within a few miles of each other.

That may not sound like a lot but if you filled a 50litre tank each week it would amount to a difference of £2, and £96 a year.

Here are the cheapest petrol prices we found in the highly populated postcodes.

Croydon

A litre of unleaded petrol within central Croydon costed 163.9p as of September 2.

That was at a Texaco and BP forecourt.

And a litre of diesel was just 180.9p per litre.

Leicester

The cheapest litre of unleaded petrol in central Leicester was 159.9p, which you could buy at a Texaco forecourt.

A litre of diesel in the same area was 177.9p at three Tesco forecourts.

Waltham Forest

In the London area of Waltham Forest, as of September 2 the cheapest litre of petrol was at a BP for 160.9p.

The same amount of diesel was worth 177.9p at an Asda forecourt and a Harvest Energy forecourt.

Brighton

A litre of diesel in central Brighton would set you back 180.9p as of September 2 from a Tesco forecourt.

And a litre of unleaded petrol was worth 163.9p at a Texaco garage.

Coventry

In the centre of Coventry, a litre of unleaded petrol costed 165.7p, while a litre of diesel was 178.9p.

These were based on prices on September 2.

Of course, one thing to bear in mind is that a lot of the prices are based on prices around a week ago, so these might be different now.
