IS gin-infused food just the tonic? Supermarkets hope so, with the tipple added to everything from jam and popcorn to biscuits and even pasta.
But adding the spirit does increase the price. We asked gin lover and mum-of-three Lynsey Hope to see if they are worth splashing out on . . .
Fish
THE combination of lemon and gin on the salmon was delicious. It was citrussy and melted in the mouth.
The salmon itself was only very lightly smoked and I really enjoyed the subtle flavours. I just wish it was a bit cheaper. Really enjoyable.
Pasta
A RICH and delicious pasta meal. Below the overwhelming flavour of venison I definitely got a bit of a gin aftertaste. Enjoyed this meal enough to buy it again.
Marmalade
LOVELY, not too sweet and a great consistency. The flavour of the gin and tonic is subtle and not overpowering, which is important when you’re eating it for breakfast.
It is pricey for a jar of marmalade so probably best bought as a gift for gin lovers or for special occasions.
Biscuits
REALLY delicious. Kind of a fancy, boozy, Jaffa Cake. They were so yummy I went back to buy more and Waitrose were out of stock.
Hopefully they keep selling them – as I’m addicted!
Popcorn
THIS is made with five per cent London Dry Gin and five per cent tonic and infused in smooth caramel.
It was a very moreish popcorn without the hard kernels you get in other brands, but I’m not sure I could really taste the gin. It’s expensive, too, for a very small amount.
Sweets
QUITE a small jar and tiny sweets so I wasn’t impressed at first glance, given the price.
They do taste nice but I don’t think these are worth the money. If you’re craving gin, buy yourself a bottle instead.
Gherkins
A SURPRISING hit. Just a small amount of gin is mixed with the white wine vinegar for pickling but it really lifted the taste.
I can’t wait to stick them in with a burger when barbecue season arrives. I reckon they’ll become a regular on my shopping list.
Fudge
AN extremely strong, boozy-tasting fudge with gin and elderflower. You can smell the alcohol as soon as you open the box.
I love gin, but I found this too strong and the fudge left quite a funny after- taste. No thanks.
