EXPERTS have developed an AI-powered dating app that can match profiles based on a single selfie.
The dating app, dubbed SciMatch, was created by sisters Yanina and Viktoryia Strylets, who have degrees in data science and computer science, respectively.
SciMatch works by having users download a single photo of their faces.
It then uses an AI algorithm named Ruby to examine personality traits it identifies in your face.
Based on your assessment, it will suggest potential partners based on compatible traits.
“Scan your face, discover your true self, and envision your future with potential matches on SciMatch. Because faces don’t lie,” the company’s webpage reads.
“A single selfie is all it takes to match you with a person with whom you’ll have a strong connection,” it adds.
The sisters were inspired by a study conducted in 2021 that looks at the connection between facial images and five main personality characteristics.
These traits include neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness.
To create the AI algorithm, SciMatch’s Ruby was fed millions of faces that are associated with certain character traits, Yanina Strylets told the Into Tomorrow podcast.

She added that the algorithm “is much more accurate than human judgment” in predicting a user’s character traits.
In fact, the algorithm has proved to be accurate 87 percent of the time, Yanina continued.
Furthermore, SciMatche’s response rate is 77 percent higher than Tinder’s, the sisters said.
SciMatch is not the only dating app that is utilizing artificial intelligence to enhance its platform.
Earlier this summer, Match Group (which owns Tinder and Hinge) announced plans to use AI to help solve key dating pain points.
“These include helping users select their optimal photos and leveraging AI to highlight why a given profile may be a good match,” Match Group’s Q2 earnings letter stated.
“We’re also working on larger AI projects that more holistically improve the end-to-end dating experience,” the letter added.
