We have four ways to save cash and create your own Christmas wreath

Or instead, feel the pride of creating your own for less than £10.

Here’s how . . .

PHONE A FRIEND or THREE: To keep costs extra-low, invite some mates round so you can buy in bulk and share the bill.

Everyone can also bring greenery from their own gardens, or pick up gems that have fallen in the park.

So, put your pal with the big garden at the top of your guest list.

PUT A RING ON IT: Gather together the things you need.

First, you need a wreath ring or base.

The cheapest are metal ones that you then cover in moss.

Most read in Money

You can buy one for £2 at Hobbycraft or a pack of ten for around £8 from Amazon.

Next, get a bag of fresh moss from a garden centre, DIY store or Amazon.

Or get a ring already covered in moss, from £4.99 at The Range.

GREEN FOR GO: Plan your foliage.

Fir, ivy, holly and spruce work.

Anything with bright berries or coloured leaves is good.

Add extras such as cinnamon sticks, pine cones, baubles, ribbons and bows, or teasels and seed pods from hedges.

You also need a spool of green or black florists’ or hobby wire, as well as secateurs or scissors, and gloves.

GRAND DESIGN: Start your design by pressing the moss into the plain metal ring — or use a pre-made base.

Press in hard with no gaps.

Gather three different sprigs of foliage in your hand, place together on the ring and secure tightly with three rounds of the wire.

Repeat this process, securing the leaves in the same direction until the ring is covered, leaving no gaps.

Keep winding the wire round and leave a loop at the end to hang the wreath.

Finish off with your chosen embellishments, covering any spaces that are left.

Either poke them into the base or secure them with wire.
