Remember too, to always shop around for the best deals.

Just because something is on sale at Matalan for what appears to be a good price that doesn’t mean you won’t find it elsewhere for less.

You can use the Google Shopping tab to compare products across a number of retailers.

That said, we’ve checked out some of the best steals you can get from Matalan – and the ones to avoid.

What to buy

Kids clothes

Matalan stocks clothes for a range of ages, but you can get some steals in the kids’ section.

One shopper, who claims to be “Matalan’s biggest fan”, said you can get children’s clothing sets from just £15.

There are plenty of items to choose from too – including shoes, accessories, Disney-themed outfits and branded clothes.

If you want to bag yourself the occasional exclusive discount or reward, you can set up your own personal account.

Sale items

It might seem obvious, but it’s well worth keeping an eye on the Matalan website for any sales.

The retailer currently has a clearance sale, with up to 50% off.

There are hundreds of products to choose from across the women’s, girls, boys, home and footwear departments.

Bear in mind you might have to factor in the added delivery costs though.

Dupes

Dupes are often a great way of getting a like-for-like product but for much less money.

And Matalan is no stranger to offering up items similar to other retailers but at discounted prices.

Shoppers have discovered Zara Home and H&M homeware dupes in the past that were cheaper than the real thing.

One customer recently took to Tik Tok to share how she had found a woven placemat from Matalan for £5 whereas a similar item at Zara Home was £9.

Homeware essentials

As is the case with a number of retailers, Matalan occasionally heavily slashes prices on products to clear excess stock.

It can be a bit hit and miss, and depends on the branch, but it can see you get up to 75% off in some cases.

For example, in April, the retailer was selling a teddy king duvet set for £8 – down from £32.

The best way to find these types of deals is by scouring Facebook groups like Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK and websites like latestdeals.co.uk.

Beyond that, you can often pick up steals in the baggage section – prices on the website start at £28.

What to avoid

Items where you might need to use the changing room

While Matalan is known for its clothing ranges, a number of customers have said online their nearest branch has closed changing rooms in recent weeks.

Posting on the Trustpilot website, which lets customers leave reviews of companies, one person said: “Changing rooms closed, no signage to warn of this until you get there with clothes to try on.”

Meanwhile, another shopper said: “Needed some jeans and prefer to try in-store rather than “risk” online for sizing

“Went to the Merry Hill store, found what I needed, changing rooms shut with a sign saying this is temporary.”

Mid-sized clothing

You can get some bargain prices on Matalan clothing, but don’t just make a purchase because it’s cheap.

One shopper revealed how some of the mid-sized clothes weren’t quite to her fancy.

You can return any items you don’t like though, although the rules differ depending on how you do it.

Customers returning items bought online can get a free refund within 14 days of you receiving any items.

You can also return items via post – the refund will be processed within 14 days of Matalan receiving the items.
