ROYAL WAVE: Create a fantastic collage flag using scrap material.

Find any old bits of blue and red paper — you can use old envelopes, clean food wrappers or go through old magazines and newspapers.

Roughly cut the scraps into smaller pieces and draw the outline of a Union Jack on a piece of A3 paper.

Give kids some child-safe glue and guide them to fill in the red and blue parts of the flag with the scraps.

ROLL WITH IT: Put old kitchen and toilet rolls to good use by crafting Coronation tube figures.

You can make a king, guard, horse and The Archbishop of Canterbury from the cardboard tubes using Hobbycraft’s instructions here.

The project calls for different colours of felt to bring the figures to life, but you could improvise with old bits of material you have at home.

Or just use felt tips to colour in the rolls instead.

SCRAP BUNTING: Any royal celebration calls for bunting. Fold and stick coloured paper triangles over string for a traditional look.

Or you can use any spare materials to create garlands. For example, tie big ribbon bows at equal distance along a piece of string.

Even colourful pieces of fabric knotted and interspersed with little pompoms can look fab.

CORONATION COLOURING: Get the crayons out and down- load free Coronation-themed colouring sheets from Hobbycraft.co.uk.

This failsafe way of keeping the kids entertained should give you a moment to make a cuppa, at least.

Designs include a portrait of King Charles III and the Coronation Crown.
