Making your kitchen sparkle can be costly — if you use specialist cleaning products

But if you want to make your kitchen shine for less, follow these experts’ tricks . . .

HELEN FRANCIS, director at abodelifestyle.co.uk, says: “Oven cleaning can be hard work and many people love Mr Muscle or The Pink Stuff products.

“But for an effective, more natural and affordable approach, mix baking soda with lemon, white vinegar and water in a bottle.

“Spray and leave for a good 20 minutes, then add some elbow grease. Wipe with a clean cloth and marvel at your handiwork.”

KAY PERRY, director at thecleanermoray.co.uk, says: “Hard-to-reach kitchen cupboard tops tend to get missed and then get very dirty and difficult to clean.

“Get yourself a cheap extendable handle duster, such as the Homebase extendable telescopic duster for £2.45, then set a calendar reminder to dust every two weeks.

“By dusting these areas of your home on a regular basis, the dust is less likely to settle and you won’t need expensive products to sort.”

PAUL McFADYEN, metals expert at metals4u.co.uk, says: “An affordable way to tackle stainless steel sinks is to use baking soda mixed with water to form a paste.

“Then rinse the area well and be sure to dry it with a microfiber cloth to prevent watermarks.

“You can use the same mixture on aluminium — so if your pots and pans are looking grubby or you have tough stains to remove, use the same paste to get them looking shiny and new.”

JOSH BARBER, floor expert at flooringsuperstore.com, says: “Tackle difficult kitchen floor stains like mud or set food by gently rubbing for a while with a damp cloth.

“For scratches, you can use a cheap touch-up pen (around £2-3 from Amazon) but always check with your floor manufacturer first.”
