Many big suppliers offer the discount over winter and it comes just as millions of Brits are facing rocketing energy bills.

The much-needed cash goes to those claiming pension credit automatically – others on low incomes must make a claim.

But the scheme is on a first-come first-served basis and most energy companies have now closed the scheme.

Shell Energy is the latest to stop applications until next winter and follows British Gas a few weeks ago.

Customers of four energy firms can still get the cash though, but they need to act quick.

SoEnergy told The Sun that applications are still open for the scheme but that is likely to be “for another few weeks based on current applications”.

You can apply for the warm home discount here if you’re a SoEnergy customer.

You can also apply still if you’re a customer of E.On or E.On Next.

But you should act quick as providers can close the scheme at any time – you can apply here, or here with E.On Next.

Bulb’s warm home discount scheme is also still open. There’s no specific deadline, but the energy firm said it’s almost full so apply soon – you can do that here.

Each supplier has different eligibility criteria for the scheme, but it’s generally aimed at those on low incomes or who are struggling with bills.

The £140 discount is applied to bills between October and March.

If you have a pre-payment meter, you’ll be sent a £140 voucher that you can use to top up your account.

We asked each firm when those who have successfully applied will get their discount – here’s what they said.

Unfortunately the warm home discount has closed at the following suppliers:

  • Boost
  • British Gas
  • EDF
  • E energy
  • Octopus Energy
  • Ovo
  • Scottish Power
  • Shell Energy
