BANGING BANGERS: Easy store cupboard ingredients can be transformed into a tasty nibble.

Mix four tablespoons of sweet chilli sauce with a tablespoon each of soy sauce, cranberry sauce and brown sugar and two tablespoons of orange juice.

Line a roasting dish with foil, add 30 cocktail sausages and pour over the sauce.

Roast at 190C until the sausages are cooked through. Serve with cocktail sticks to avoid sticky fingers.

POTATO SMASHER: Mini baked potatoes are cheap to make.
Get a bag of new potatoes.

Wash them, then rub with olive oil and salt. Roast in the oven at around 180 degrees for an hour, or until cooked through.

Cut a cross in the top, gently squeeze to open, then add a dollop of sour cream and snip over some chives.

EARN YOUR CRUST: Cut a 30cm French stick into thin slices — you should get around 25.

Brush with a little olive oil and grill for a minute each side until golden and crusty.

Spread cream cheese on each, then top with smoked salmon. Fish ups the cost, so you could use trimmings instead.

WHISKED WONDERS: You can make around 20 great bite-size treats with a dozen eggs, 100g cheese, milk, and leftover vegetables in your fridge.

Chop 300g broccoli, two red peppers and four spring onions into small chunks, fry them gently in oil for five minutes and set aside.

Whisk together a dozen eggs and three tablespoons of milk and half the cheese. Add half a teaspoon each of salt and pepper.

Grease the holes in a muffin tin then half fill each hole with the mixture.

Drop in the veg and top with the remaining cheese. Bake for around 20 minutes or until the egg is set.
