SLUSH, BANG, WALLOP: Most slushie machines cost at least £40. But the Slush Puppie one at Robert Dyas is now down from £52.99 to £34.99.

If you have a blender, you can also use it to make a super slushie.

Smash up ice cubes a little before you pop these and your other ingredients in the blender, then blitz on high speed for around 30 seconds.

Or try the Chill Factor slushie maker, £10, from Argos. You freeze the cup over-night then fill with your favourite drink and squeeze until it makes a slush.

OLD FAVOURITE: Add some syrup to crushed ice for an old-school slush.

A bottle of the Slush Puppie red cherry flavour from Studio.co.uk is on sale, down from £8 to £4. Or a two-pack of raspberry-and-strawberry syrup is down from £14.99 to £9.99 at Robert Dyas.

FOR THE KIDS: As a healthy treat for children, slushies are a great way to smuggle some fruit into their diet.

Strawberries, blueberries, mango and peaches all make excellent flavours for a slush blended with ice, and add a teaspoon or so of honey or sugar syrup. Or serve up the summer holiday spirit in a glass with a virgin Pina Colada.
