A former private secretary to Prince Andrew is playing a key role in a possible bid for Currys.

Amanda Thirsk, who quit her role with the Duke of York nearly four years ago, is working in a senior business development role at JD.com – a Chinese online shopping giant circling the high-street electrical firm.

Thirsk worked at Buckingham Palace for Prince Andrew from 2004 until 2020 before she left following his disastrous interview with the BBC’s Newsnight.

Prior to joining the Palace, she worked as a banker.

But sources told Sky News she is now involved in JD.com’s evaluation of a possible swoop for Currys, which has been the subject of takeover interest from private equity firm Elliott Advisors.
