TOKYO—Former Nissan Motor Co. executive Greg Kelly flew back to the U.S. from Japan on Monday, ending a Tokyo stay that he thought would take just a few days but ended up lasting more than three years.

Mr. Kelly, 65 years old, was arrested in November 2018 after arriving in Tokyo and charged with helping former Nissan Chief Executive Carlos Ghosnevade executive-pay disclosure laws. Mr. Kelly was found guilty on March 3 of doing so during a single fiscal year but was cleared of other charges. He has appealed the ruling.
