Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul Fight Marred by Streaming Glitch

The outage happened before Sunday’s main event, the fight between Messrs. Paul and Mayweather, who were scheduled to square off in Hard Rock Stadium at Miami Gardens, Fla., before midnight.

A spokeswoman for ViacomCBS Inc.’s Showtime said the streaming service is aware that some pay-per-view customers were having trouble accessing the event, adding that the company was working to resolve the issue.

Mr. Paul’s social-media clout and Mr. Mayweather’s boxing stardom combined to create a much-anticipated bout hyped on a variety of platforms. The event is expected to drive pay-per-view orders for Showtime, which is also home to shows including “Billions,” “Shameless” and “Your Honor.”

Showtime is working with some customers who have requested refunds, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Frustrated with their inability to watch the fight on Showtime, some viewers turned to a bootleg stream of the matchup posted on social-media website Reddit.

ViacomCBS isn’t the only media company that has experienced difficulties in streaming highly anticipated programming. AT&T Inc.’s HBO Max service lagged for some customers ahead of last week’s “Mare of Easttown” season finale, and the company’s B/R Live service hiccuped before a 2018 golf match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
