NOTHING says “I love you” like a Valentine’s card you have poured your heart into.

So make your crush feel extra special this February 14 by hand-making your own.

It will cost less and mean so much more. Here are some ideas to get you started.

NICE AND CHEESY: A simple card with a fun message will make your other half smile.

Raid an old jigsaw for two pieces that slot together and stick them on a plain card with the message, “We’re a perfect fit”.

Alternatively, you could glue some birthday candles on to a card, cut off the wicks and draw in heart-shaped flames, with a cute note like, “I’ve noticed a spark between us”.

PAPER HEARTS: All you need is a sheet of paper to show your love. Make an origami heart by following the instructions at origamiway.com. There are also video tutorials on YouTube.

Stick the folded heart to a plain card and add a touching message.

PRINTS CHARMING: If you are less artistic, or want to involve the kids, download a Valentine’s card template.

You can find a free selection on the ideas section of Hobbycraft’s website or at redtedart.com.

Just print and stick them to a card, then decorate with pens, glitter, poms-poms and craft feathers.

MAKE IT PERSONAL: Hand-making your card means you can include a secret slogan only you and your lover know.

It might be a joke about where you first met — “You Brighton my day” — or a play on pet names.

Make the card shine with homemade hearts, or try some old-school potato printing.

Cut a heart shape from a spud, dip it in poster paint and stamp it on.

STAND-OUT DESIGN: Score extra points by making a multi-dimensional card.

The layered 3D heart card at easypeasyandfun.com is a winner and only costs pennies to create.

All you need is scissors, glue and different coloured paper.
