Make an activity of it to knock up a tasty lunch in no time . . .

TOP STUFF: Get your toppings sorted first. Pick up a jar of Tesco Tomato & Herb pizza sauce for £1.65 and Aldi Essentials grated cheese, £2.80 for 500g.

Use leftover vegetables or make the most of seasonal veg on offer, such as Lidl peppers, 55p each, or courgettes, reduced from £2.78 to £1.79 per kg this week. Lightly pan-fry the veg first.

FUN FLATBREADS: Grab a pack of four Aldi flatbreads for £1.09.

Add the sauce and cheese before putting them in the oven for about ten minutes. Muffins also make ideal mini-pizza crusts.

Get a packet of four Warburtons muffins for £1.40 at Iceland, or three for £3 as part of its multi-buy deal. Split and toast lightly before adding toppings.

A PITTA PERFECTION: Pitta bread can be a fantastic pizza foundation. Wholewheat pitta also works and they’re only 50p for a pack of six at Tesco.

Layer your toppings and, after a few minutes in the oven, you’ll have a kid-friendly meal ready in no time.

WRAP STARS: Tortilla wraps also make tasty pizzas. Get Asda The Bakery ones, £1.10 for eight.

Use the flat wrap as the base and add cheese and veg before oven-baking for a few minutes. Or create homemade calzones by popping a flat tortilla in a pan on the hob.

Layer your wrap with sauce and cheese. Then fold it over and heat until the cheese melts and the wrap gets crispy.

SWEET PIZZA BITES: For a healthy pizza base, try using sweet potato. Get a 1kg bag for £1.20 at Morrisons.

Cut into slices, about half an inch in thickness, and toss in oil with salt and pepper before cooking flat in the oven for 25 minutes.

When cooked, use a teaspoon to add sauce and cheese before popping under the grill to melt the cheese.
