HYBRID working is here to stay with one in four staff now working in a hybrid model.

Figures from the Office of `National Statistics show only three in ten firms still require staff to work fully on-site in 2023, down from six in ten before the pandemic.

Choosing a hybrid role can help you balance other commitments in your life, from caring for children or ageing parents to studying or setting up a side hustle – but some staff struggle with remote working and need extra support.

Here’ s how to make the wfh life work for you, with Sun Jobs

Hybrid or fully-remote?

When you apply for a role, be clear on what it offers. A fully remote role means you can work from anywhere and are not expected to be in the office at any point.

Some staff even work from abroad and most companies are in favour of this as long as the work gets done.

A hybrid role sees you spend time working remotely and in the office, usually over the course of the same week.

Set expectations from both sides

Agree on how many days you need to be on-site and how many working from home each week.

Firm up which days you are expected to be in as your job may require the on-site desk for another employee on a different day.

Keep it professional

Working remotely means doing the same job but from a different place.

Keep to your expected hours, be available for calls and meetings and ensure the same level of professionalism as you would do in the office.

This means dressing the part and having a workspace where you can concentrate too.

Stay connected

WFH will mean you don’t see your colleagues as much, so it’s essential to keep plugged into the company culture.

Team build by celebrating successes remotely – hold internal awards, have regular weekly whole-team online meetings and get together in person when schedules allow.

Don’t overload yourself with extras

Working from home doesn’t mean you should be picking up extra domestic chores too.

Spilt the work with your partner and family. It isn’t your duty to be cleaning or doing the laundry simply because you are at home.

WFH means working for your employer, not working on the housework.
