WI-FI extenders or boosters are great at eliminating dark spots in the home.

But they only work if your router is kicking out a decent connection to begin with.

Wi-Fi boosters increase the range of your wireless network by picking up the signal from your router, copying it, and rebroadcasting it to a different area of your house.

However, they are not without their limitations, according to experts at MoneySuperMarket.

“A Wi-Fi booster is governed by the speed of the internet connection coming into the property, the distance you set it up from the router and the demands placed on Wi-Fi from your household,” experts wrote in a recent blog post.

So, here are three Wi-Fi hacks that can instantly boost your connection better than an extender.

Using them should also make your Wi-Fi booster way more useful at home.

“Few things are more frustrating than a slow internet connection when you want to make video calls for work, play an online game, or stream a movie,” experts noted.

Restart your router

The first trick MoneySuperMarket recommends is to restart your router.

As the easiest and quickest fish, rebooting your Wi-Fi hub “can refresh your connection and potentially improve your speed,” said experts.

A router with parental controls also stores cache and network information, just like a computer.

And if an error gets stored in this cache, it can lead to router malfunctions and even dropped internet connections.

But usually, cache just makes the router sluggish if it’s not cleared for a while.

Restarting your router can also wipe this cache slate clean.

Move your router

Making sure your router lives in the right place is critical to your connection speeds.

MoneySuperMarket experts suggest positioning your router in a central location in your home to enhance your signal.

But there are specific rooms and nearby materials to avoid to get the most out of your internet package – so be sure to read up on those.

Plug in with an ethernet cable

An Ethernet connection allows data to be sent via a cable.

“If possible, use a wired connection for a faster, more stable internet connection,” added experts.

They can also allow your wireless network to be less clogged up with multiple devices.
