The popular app survived for just over four years – but is now being killed off.

“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for everything that you’ve done to build a thriving community for gamers and fans since this app first launched,” said Facebook in an email to users.

“This was truly a community-led effort to bring new gaming features to Facebook.”

The app is due to be removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on October 28, 2022.

It will stop functioning if you still have the app installed.

Facebook says you can download all of your search data on the app before it shuts down.

It’s still possible to find streamers inside the Facebook app proper, in the gaming section.

But the app itself will no longer work on iOS or Android.

Facebook Gaming launched back in June 2018, offering up a ready-to-stream pool of creators.

It was intended as a rival to Twitch, letting gamers stream content while interacting with fans.

And Facebook set up partnerships with select video games so viewers could earn in-game rewards.

Parent company Meta is keeping its gaming efforts alive, but inside the core Facebook app only.

“Our mission to connect players, fans and creators with the games they love hasn’t changed,” Facebook explained.

“And you’ll still be able to find your games, streamers and groups when you visit Gaming in the Facebook app.”
