FACEBOOK fans are being “driven mad” by a mysterious noise that randomly pings in the app.
Users have complained about a “chirping” sound playing whenever they scroll through the social network on an iPhone.
“The latest Facebook app for the iPhone makes a noise when you scroll,” one person wrote.
“It’s driving me nuts.”

Another fumed: “That noise Facebook is making while I scroll is the quickest way to get me to exit that app!”
A third added: “Just turn off the chirping noise when I use iPhone.

“It’s making my brain hurt. It’s already annoying with all the ads.”
Facebook has admitted that the sound is a “technical error”.
Andy Stone, Meta‘s Communications Director, said: “Hearing a chirping noise while scrolling through your Facebook Feed on your iPhone?
“It’s not you, it’s us! And it’s an unfortunate technical error that we’re in the process of fixing.”

How to switch off Facebook chirping sound
Facebook is still working on a proper fix for the chirping sound in its iPhone app.
But there is a way to switch it off manually for now.
Follow these steps or hit play on the video at the top of this page.
- Open the Facebook app and tap the Menu button in the bottom right
- Scroll down and select Settings & Privacy
- Then tap Settings
- Scroll down to Media
- Turn the In-app sound toggle off
