FEELING saucy? Well, we are a nation of condiment lovers.
Recent research from Asda suggests it will sell 1.7million bottles of mayo and 1.6million bottles of ketchup over the summer. Those little supermarket extras all add up, so I’ve found some cheap dupes that make the grade.
HIGH SPICE, LOW PRICE: Chips and curry sauce — a British favourite. Not only can you make your own fakeaway-style dinners by whipping up your own curry sauce, you can also save big if you know where to shop. Goldenfry Chip Shop Curry Sauce Granules are just £1 at Poundshop.com — this works out cheaper and offers far more servings than ready-made Bisto Chip Shop Curry Sauce Pots, £1.60 for two pots at Ocado.
BURGER BARGAIN: I love a McDonald’s Big Mac and, for me, the sauce is the showstopper. Thankfully, I’ve discovered the Just Good Sauce Co Fully Loaded Chunky Burger Sauce, 79p for a bottle at Aldi. It’s more wallet-friendly than other burger sauce offerings, such as the Hellmann’s Chunky Burger Sauce, £1.75 at Waitrose.
GARLIC DIP IN PRICE: When it comes to pizza, I am partial to the Domino’s Garlic & Herb dip. Aldi has a seriously tasty 49p (100g) dupe, which is at least 50p less than Domino’s version, but to save more in the long run I love the Crucials Garlic & Herb Dip, only £1 at Iceland for a whopping 500ml bottle.
THE COST IS ALL GRAVY: KFC gravy, anyone? There’s just something about this sauce that chicken lovers can’t get enough of but you can replicate this cheaply at home, too. Gravy fans have been raving about the Bisto Southern Style Gravy Granules. Priced just £1.50 at Asda, it is a steal compared to ready-made dupes on eBay for around £5.99 for two servings.
SQUEEZY SAVINGS: Hellman’s have finally launched their much-hyped Squeezy Cheese Sauce into major supermarkets. It’s definitely worth a try for just £1.70.
