I CAN’T wait for a BBQ in the sunshine once this typically unwelcoming bank holiday weekend weather has passed.
Make sure your wallet doesn’t feel the heat, thanks to these sizzling saves.
PUT THE KETTLE ON: I’ll be grabbing a £12 Kettle BBQ from Poundland for my summer shindigs — and when it comes to the grub, burgers and bangers are usually the order of the day.
If you’re serving six hungry adults, stock up on the crowd- pleasers.
You don’t need to fork out a fortune for your meat if you head to Iceland — it has a selection of summer barbecue eats. I like the four-pack of quarter-pounders, £3, and you can mix and match with other options on a three-for-£8 deal.
PIT OF ALL RIGHT: Tesco has a great Fire Pit range full of marinated meat dishes inspired by US pitmasters — saving you the effort of rubbing various extra herbs and spices on to your meats.
Check out the chicken-and-chorizo kebabs, £4, and the salt-and-chilli pork- belly slices, £4 — you can grab two for £7 when using a Clubcard.
VEG OUT: Feeding a vegetarian or vegan friend? Or veggie yourself?
You don’t need to spend a fortune on meat-free barbecue goodies. Asda is selling a handy meat-free BBQ bundle for £7.69, saving 90p on buying the single items.
Meanwhile, you can also DIY some vegetable-based dishes on the cheap by seasoning and griddling your favourite veg. Morrisons’ wonky-veg range is great for doing this even cheaper.
PUD THIS ON THE BARBIE: I always need something sweet after a barbecue.
Aldi has some lovely, easy recipes for summer puds on its website — check out the barbecue pineapple steaks.
You only need a pineapple, 75p, brown sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon and vanilla ice cream, £1.25 for two litres to serve.
If you fancy something more instant, you can’t go wrong with Magnums. Check out the Magnum Mini Double Caramel Ice Cream Sticks, £2.50 for six, down from £4.25 at Morrisons.
- Prices correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
