TODAY we are well and truly double-booked.

It is National Rosé Wine Day and World Gin Day, although there are worse predicaments to a Saturday than choosing which to say “Cheers!” to.

If you fancy toasting with a glass or two of your favourite, here are my favourite savvy sips that will not break the bank . . .

IN THE PINK: Tesco has some great deals on rosé wines at the moment. You can currently enjoy bottles of Villa Maria Sauvignon Blush for just £7.50, down from £9.50 when using a Clubcard. Or the Freixenet Italian Rose is now £8 instead of £10. It tastes amazing and the fancy bottle it comes in is also quite a showstopper in itself.

SAVING: Up to £2

GIN GENIUS: If you are more of a gin-sipper, why not still pay homage to rosé day with a pink gin? Gordon’s Premium Pink Distilled Flavoured Gin balances the refreshing taste of Gordon’s with the sweetness of raspberries and straw-berries and a touch of redcurrant, plus it is currently on offer at Sainsbury’s for just £14, down from £16.50. I also love Lidl’s Hortus Premium Pink Gin, £15.99 as an own-brand swap for big names such as Beefeater, £16.50.

SAVING: Up to £2.50

SUMMER SPRITZ: Make your bottle go further and join the Instagram crowd by creating a fresh rosé spritz. Lemonade is a great option but ginger ale works well too. Or soda water creates refreshing bubbles without adding sweetness. For an extra photo-finish, you can add frozen fruit to keep your drink cool without diluting further. I find that three parts wine to one part fizz works a treat — especially on a lovely hot day.

CANNY BUYS: I cannot talk about summer gins without mentioning the handy tinnies we all know and love — and there are some great, cheap options up for grabs at the moment. I am a big fan of the Haysmith’s London Dry G&T Cans, £28.56 for a pack of 24 at Aldi (working out at £1.19 per can).
