A FLAGSHIP Ann Summers store is sitting abandoned after the brand decided to shut its doors.

The retailer’s major shop on Glasgow’s Argyle Street has closed down as businesses across the country experience similar woes.

Photos inside the store show empty shelves and boxes piled up in the windows of the once-bustling lingerie hub.

Ann Summers, best known for its playful underwear and collection of sex toys, said the store was being moved elsewhere in the city centre.

“We can confirm that this store is relocating and we look forward to celebrating the opening of our new store with our customers soon,” a spokesperson said.

“In the meantime, our customers are welcome to visit our Buchanan Galleries store.”

Despite the sudden moving out of stock, the chain has actually experienced a recent uptick in brick and mortar success.

A nearby shop Glasgow’s Buchanan Galleries was opened on Valentine’s Day with retail sales were up 7.6 per cent since 2020.

Gross profit reached £60m, up from £50.9m in 2021 to assist in keeping its 88 stores across the UK and Ireland afloat.

Four or five stores are also slated to open throughout 2024.

The moderate success comes as retailers across the country struggle to keep their doors open.

The Mount Plesant Tesco Express in Liverpool will be permanently closing on November 15 in a blow to nearby university students.

Boots is also set to pull the shutters down for good on two shops as part of a huge store shake-up.

Other big names such as Wilko struggled, with the popular retailer going into administration in August after failing to find a buyer.
