Elon Musk was trolled by someone across the street from Twitter‘s San Francisco headquarters last night who projected a news-ticker style message that called the Chief Twit ‘space Karen,’ ‘bankruptcy baby’ and a ‘mediocre manchild,’ among other insults.

Crowds formed outside the firm’s headquarters on Market Street to watch the projection. According to Gia Vang, an NBC Bay Area reporter, the messages are from an individual calling themself a ‘projection activist.’

The anonymous taunting came amid a mass exodus at the social network that was prompted by Musk’s ‘hardcore’ ultimatum that gave the company’s workforce mere days to decide if they wanted to keep working for the mogul or accept three months of severance pay instead.

The projected insults also called Musk a ‘lawless oligarch,’ a ‘supreme parasite,’ a ‘cruel hoarder’ and ‘insecure colonizer.’

It remained unclear who was responsible for the projected comments but they are similar to some that were thrown up on the building’s edifice by a projection artist known as Alan Marling on Nov. 7.

Marling taunted Musk at that time with a range of comments projected onto Twitter headquarters, including ‘unionize tech’ and ‘Musk’s hellscape.’

‘Elon Musk seems committed to using Twitter to amplify conspiracy theories and white supremacy,’ Marling told SFGate via email at the time.

Meanwhile, the vibe at the platform seems to have devolved into chaos.

Fortune reporter Kylie Robison tweeted last night: ‘What I’m hearing from Twitter employees; It looks like roughly 75% of the remaining 3,700ish Twitter employees have not opted to stay after the “hardcore” email.’

Robison also said that the 1,000 workers who still remained at Twitter were forced to stay in the country due to their visas.

Prior to Musk’s takeover, there were over 7,000 workers. Musk laid off about half of them after his buyout went through in a bid to cut costs. The mogul also did a U-turn on his earlier prohibition against working from home

However, there are now widespread fears that the remaining skeletal staff won’t be able to keep the social network up and running – especially as the World Cup brings a time period of much higher traffic to it.

For his part, Musk continued to troll his critics on the platform.

In a critique of Musk’s mass layoffs, the Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted: ‘Shout out to all the workers at Twitter. You all built a vital place for connection and deserved so much better. Millions of people appreciate the space you built and the hard work that went into it. Thank you.’

He replied: ‘You’re welcome.’

A group of Democratic senators on Thursday asked federal regulators to investigate any possible violations on the platform of consumer protection laws or of data security commitments.

The lawmakers also asked FTC head Lina Khan to take enforcement action if needed against Twitter and company executives for ‘any breaches or business practices that are unfair or deceptive.’
