ELON Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink has slashed the price of broadband for Brits by a third.

Starlink, owned by Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, was initially launched to bring broadband to remote areas.

Starlink now has around 3,900 low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites, with approval already granted to deploy roughly 7,500 more by the end of 2027.

A standard package boasts unlimited usage, fast latency times of 25-50ms, advertised downloads of around 50-200Mbps and uploads of about 5-15Mbp.

From today, Brits can access the service for a one-off cost of £300 instead of £460 for a “limited” time, alongside the monthly fee.

Customers in the UK normally pay around £75 per month, plus the £460 for the regular home kit, which includes the satellite dish and router.

Starlink hasn’t specified how long the offer lasts.

However, the company is known to be very lenient with its cancellations – so customers don’t have to worry about being trapped in contracts.

“Long term contracts prevent both parties from making sensible changes when necessary,” the company writes on its website.

“It’s a fair deal both ways. Starlink can adjust terms and pricing as needed, and customers can cancel at any time, for any reason.

“Try any Starlink Service for 30 days and, if not satisfied, return the hardware for a full refund.”

Starlink broadband can also be moved around and used on the road, with a portability add-on or the company Roam subscription.

In a Starlink Facebook group, one user said the price drop was tempting them to ditch their more traditional broadband provider.

“Now Starlink have dropped the hardware price I’m now seriously thinking of moving over,” they wrote.

“I currently have BT with 20mg download (on a good day) which can be a pain when multiple TV’s are streaming.”

A new customer wrote on Twitter that the satellite internet alternative is better suited for rural living.

“After putting up with rubbish rural broadband for way too many years, we have finally gone & got @SpaceX Starlink. All I can say so far is WOW,” they wrote.

“Only criticism I have is that the Starlink turned up, but the wall mount & LAN connector are a week from being delivered.”

However, some still believe the price to be too costly.
