More than 66 per cent of the customers reported that they had issues with their mobile phone service.

The issue, which has now been resolved, was most prevalent in London, Manchester and Cardiff.

Affected customers have taken to Twitter to express their frustration at the outage.

One user said: “EE are there issues with the network? Calls are not working for some reason?”

“Anyone else having an issue with EE? I have no network – can’t make calls. Oddly not even Wi-Fi calls,” said another.

A third customer said: “I think the network’s down as I can’t make calls.”

EE has a dedicated web page where you can find out if there are any problems in your area.

EE is owned by BT Group, which has around 26.8million household customers.

Hundreds of EE customers were left without mobile phone signal or internet after the network last suffered an outage back in June 2022.

Customers were also unable to login to the My EE app and website.

A spokesman for EE said: “We’ve investigated and the network issues have now been confirmed as resolved, there was an outage for a total of 20 minutes this evening.”

Can I get compensation?

There is compensation on offer if you are a customer affected by broadband outages.

But this is unfortunately not usually the case for mobile networks.

However, you may still be entitled to compensation from EE if you experience a mobile phone outage.

EE has previously said any customers affected by outages can contact its customer service team who will look at compensation on a case-by-case basis.

You can get in touch with EE by phone, post or online.

You can also speak to EE via its live chat service.

Other mobile phone companies such as Three have previously given customers up to £20 off their bills following a nine-hour signal failure.

Ofcom says depending on the circumstances, your phone provider may have to offer you money back while repairs are being made leading to outages.

And if repairs take longer, you may be entitled to an additional refund or account credit.
