EDF has quietly withdrawn quarterly billing as a payment option for customers.
The energy giant says residential customers will be moved to monthly billing, in a blow to thousands of households.
Money Mail reader Patrick Hoyle says: ‘EDF have removed an important, reasonable payment method in a time of high prices — it hits cashflow and means extra administration.’
One of the main advantages of quarterly demands is the bill is sent just before payment is due, giving customers a few days to check the bill is correct and query it, if not.

It gives customers more time to ensure they have enough funds and they don’t have to worry about cash being taken out of accounts each month. It is also popular with those paying by cheque.
An EDF spokesman says: ‘Customers have been notified of this change and reassured prices aren’t changing.
‘Monthly billing allows customers to budget easier and reduces the chance of bill shocks.’
Few energy suppliers now offer quarterly payments, although British Gas still does.
