Many sweet enthusiasts were excited to open their chocolate boxes this Easter weekend.

But what should have been a delicious Easter treat ended up “ruined” after they unwrapped their chocolate eggs.

One outraged shopper explained how she got sent the wrong item after buying the popular Cadbury Fruit and Nut Egg.

She was left in shock after opening the box only to find there was no egg inside.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Ciara Curran said: “My other half brought me this, because I love fruit and nut chocolate.

“I was so looking forward to this, but instead of fruit and nut, someone has packed it wrong.”

Instead of the fruit and nut egg, she was sent a bag of mini Cadbury chocolate bites.

The shopper slammed: “How do they get this so wrong? Wasn’t particularly cheap either And isn’t a fruit and nut egg.

“Please can you send me a fruit and nut Easter egg replacement with an actual chocolate fruit and nut egg please and pieces.”

But she wasn’t the only customer affected by the blunder.

Another user claimed she received a bag with no Cadbury Mini Eggs.

Natalie fumed: “Cheers Cadbury…no mini eggs in my big egg. Easter ruined.”

Meanwhile, a mum revealed how her 7-year-old son was left devastated after opening his Easter egg box.

The little boy was sent a bag of Wispa chocolates instead of a whole egg.

The user said: “My 7 year old son was exceptionally upset to find this Wispa in his Easter egg.”

But the chocolate Easter nightmare doesn’t end here.

Others were left in shock after spotting their items broken.

One user posted a picture of her Cadbury Crunchie Egg smashed into little pieces.

Leah said: “Wow, Cadbury bad form! Three out of the six Easter eggs I ordered from you are like this.

“As an adult it doesn’t bother me, but these were for the kids.”

Responding to the posts, a Cadbury spokesperson told saddened shoppers to contact the customer team for help.

They said: “Sorry to hear that! Please contact the customer care team and they’ll look into this for you.”

The Sun Online has approached Cadbury for comment.

Best supermarket own brand eggs

TO find the tastiest and best value Easter eggs, we put dozens to the test to find the winner across a range of categories.

Opt for a supermarket own-brand egg can save you a wad of cash at Easter – and better yet, it doesn’t mean you need to compromise on taste.

The winner was Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Belgian Honeycomb Corn Crunch Egg, tasting better than many luxury brands and it only costs £8.

The egg aims to recreate the nostalgic flavour of traditional Easter cornflake cakes which it does perfectly.

The creamy Belgian milk chocolate is studded with nuggets of honeycomb and crunchy roasted corn and it has a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavour.

Here were the overall scores…

  • Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Belgian Honeycomb Corn Crunch Egg – 10/10
  • Asda Extra Special Extra Thick Raspberry and Marshmallow White Chocolate Egg – 9/10
