Although the Covid-19 lockdowns have been a disaster for many retailers, Dixons Carphone is not one of them.
In fact, as families have been forced to spend more time at home, Britain’s biggest electricals chain has hoovered up extra sales of computers and other white goods.

That has been prompted by workers setting up makeshift offices at home, as well as parents wanting to buy gadgets for children who they need to keep entertained.
It meant that in December Dixons (led by boss Alex Baldock, pictured) was able to report a half-year profit of £45m – up from an £86m loss the previous year – even as its struggling mobile division turned in what one analyst called a ‘horrific’ performance.
That was after its sales for the six months to the end of October rose 17 per cent to £4.5billion.
A huge chunk of that increase came from online, where sales have rocketed 145 per cent, as the chain’s 300 stores spent part of 2020 closed.
However, on Wednesday the company will provide an update on how it fared during the November lockdown and the crucial Christmas period.
Its shares have rallied by more than 90 per cent since the pandemic sent stocks crashing in March, although they remain below where they were at the start of last year.
Investors will be hoping that Dixons can continue its winning streak.
