But streamers have taken to social media after realising they’ve automatically had their Disney+ bill hiked.

One member said: “Not sure if this will help anyone…

“I noticed my payment for Disney+ had jumped from £7.99 to £10.99 a month.

“They automatically make you pay the higher payment for existing customers so you need to log into your account and change it.”

Another said: “I think they put you on that plan based on your usage.

“There used to be one standard plan, no matter how many streams.

“Now they have gone to the old Netflix system of limiting the number of streams and charging accordingly.”

Disney+ launched a costlier premium tier which upped the bills for millions of current subscribers by £3 a month.

Dubbed Disney+ premium all UK subscribers were moved over and expected to pay £10.99 a month instead of £7.99 from November 1.

However, at the same time, Disney also launched an add-free Disney+ Standard tier for £7.99 a month and an ad-based tier priced at £4.99 a month.

All new customers pay the following rates if they have signed up for the streaming service since November 1:

  • Disney+ standard (with Ads) – £4.99 a month
  • Disney+ standard (without Ads) – £7.99 a month (or £79.90 annually)
  • Disney+ premium – £10.99 a month (or £109.90 annually)

Existing customers were automatically switched over to the premium tier on November 1.

To have prevented being charged the new £10.99 fee, they would have needed to initiate a move to a cheaper subscription before December 6.

After this date, these customers were billed the new pricing from their next billing cycle.

The two standard tiers allow customers to stream content with a resolution of up to 1080p.

It limits the number of concurrent streams to two per account.

The premium tier allows customers to stream content with a resolution of up to 4K in ultra HD.

It limits the number of concurrent streams to four per account.

If you’re interested in changing your subscription, you can manage your plan directly from your account page.

To make changes to your subscription login to your Disney+ account through a mobile or web browser.

Select ‘profile’ and then ‘account’. From here and under the ‘subscription’ section, select the subscription that you want to change.

Note that if you are charged by a third party, you will see a link to complete the change through your invoicing partner if available.

At this point, select ‘change’ next to the name of your subscription and select what plan you want to change to.

After that, you’ll receive a confirmation email and your account page will reflect the change to your new subscription.

You can also cancel your membership within this section.

When will I be charged for my new subscription?

If you’re changing to a higher-tiered plan, the change will take effect immediately.

You will be charged a pro-rata amount for the first month or year of your new plan.

Moving forward, you will remain on the plan for the life of your subscription and will be charged the applicable price of this plan at the time.
